Project Leader – Electrical Designers

Do you have a passion for leading and design if so would you like to join a passionate and skilled team of design engineers? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Leader at our site in Barrow- in -Furness.

As a Project Leader, you will be working as part of a team maturing the 3D model to support production and managing schedules. You will be working with the engineering manager along with MOD, Babcock’s, MAT Design teams and various other stakeholders.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to lead a well-established team working on modelling and output electrical compartment integration layouts. You will also have the opportunity to work with other teams and stakeholders within the business. The successful candidate will have opportunities to progress within the department and wider business.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Leader will involve:

Modelling and output electrical compartment integration layouts. Modelling and outputs of Comms & Combat systems. Delivering to schedule. Responsible for the following tasks;

Developing designers within the team through grade progression (PDRs, PDPs etc)

Developing and maintaining working relationships with interfacing organisations and teams

Working with the client to produce an integrated design that meets their expectations and agreed set of requirements

Attending major area team design reviews

To lead an integrated Product Team and/or perform duties of a responsible nature, co-ordinating input of information to that team from all technical areas as required.

Responsible for scheduling, planning, budgets, performance, task management and team working for a specific team.

To provide leadership, support and coaching to APL, Designers and other personnel (e.g. Operations, ILSG etc.) within a multi-disciplined Design Build Team.

Responsible for identifying and improving metrics performance across areas of responsibility

Responsible for the configuration control stages and detail gate reviews

To complete company assessment processes for individuals under their control which can be used for development of an individual, individual performance assessment and other assessment processes which are determined to be part of the company directive. .Also to ensure that appropriate empowered individuals are consulted as part of these reviews

To complete PDRs for all Designers, Senior Designers, Principal Designers, Leading Designers and APLs responsible to them

Chair meetings as and when required.


To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures.

To provide information in determining the SOP requirements for their team and to maintain the correct manning levels in line with the agreed Engineering SOP.

Your skills and qualifications:

Understanding of electrical systems and electrical compartment integration.

Experience of the Electrical discipline work through various stages of design, output and build.

What we're looking for in you:

Understanding of CAD modelling techniques

Experience and knowledge of FORAN CAD package

Ability to utilise Teamcenter (PLM) toolsets

Experience of working with Programme stakeholder representatives

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers.
