About the role

An opportunity has recently arisen to join the Strategic Programmes Office (SPO) team as a Project Manager. The Strategic Programmes Office exists to ensure all parts of Abcam’s strategy are being delivered by providing resources and programme support where needed. This role will take on a range of projects/programmes, with the initial focus being to support the programmes of strategic global infrastructure projects across EMEA, North America and APAC regions.

About the SPO team

Abcam has an ambitious strategy and an aggressive transformation agenda. To drive this agenda, Abcam is actively building a new Strategic Programme Office. This office is focused on helping to ensure we deliver maximum value from our strategy.

You will be part of the SPO support team that is made up of a talented group of strategic thinkers, project and change managers and plays a critical role in helping Abcam deliver its strategic initiatives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support global cross-functional programme teams, ensuring successful programme execution with long last change and value creation.

  • Partner with senior business leaders and influence stakeholders from different cultures

  • Ensure Programmes are managed according to best practice principles - e.g. appropriate governance is in place, required documentation is produced, the business case supports the Business Plan, and budgets are effectively monitored etc.

  • Develop lessons learned and share information to benefit future projects and programmes

Strategic real estate projects and supply chain and manufacturing

As the initial focus of this role will be to programme manage Abcam’s ambitious facilities plans and support supply chain and manufacturing, the following responsibilities are pertinent:

  • Support the global infrastructure process, business case development and implementation process

  • Ensure that global footprint strategy meets the needs of the business by engaging with global stakeholders

  • Support global infrastructure initiatives with data consildation, financial analysis, labour market analysis and customer product distribution/mapping/shipping

  • Potentially support future activites in supply chain and manufacturing sure as a global initiative for inventory control of company leased & owned assets (furniture, equipment, not to include IT or product inventories)

  • Support the implementation of organisational and cultural change management initiatives

  • Contribute to the development of a Programme and Project Management community in order to align working practices, realise synergies and identify new development opportunities.

  • Approximately 20% travel required

About you

The ideal candidate will have >5 years of experience of working in a project environment within a matrix organisation. A background in project management with specific experience in financial analysis (ie: capital budgeting, financial modelling, tax) labour market analysis, inventory control and commercial property is helpful. Demonstratable working knowledge of at least one project delivery methodology, e.g. Waterfall or PRINCE 2 is also required. Experience of working in the life sciences industry would be advantageous, although not essential.

You should be a team player, able to take responsibility and manage multiple projects simultaneously in different time-zones, with competing priorities. We require a strong communicator with a flexible, well organised and adaptable approach. You should be comfortable with challenging the status quo and adept at problem-solving and creative thinking.
