Department and Role Summary Description:

As part of the Global Mobility team, the EMEA Global Mobility team provides specific subject matter expertise on all assignment and relocation related matters across the EMEA region.

The Mobility Tax Manager is responsible for managing EMEA tax compliance matters for the expatriate program and other key mobility initiatives (cross border workers, business travel, ad hoc projects), and providing advisory services to the wider HR community, senior expatriates and business managers where applicable with consideration to relevant policies. The individual will work alongside Global Mobility Advisors, have management responsibility for the Mobility Tax Specialist (Warsaw) and report to the Global Mobility Tax team Lead (US). The role also has a regional reporting line to the EMEA Global Mobility Lead (London) and will have a responsibility to support them in providing the necessary technical expertise required to deliver a first class mobility program across the region.

This is a challenging role that requires exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively solve complex tax related issues and advise key stakeholders. The ability to understand and clearly communicate issues and provide solutions is critical for success, as are flexibility, multi-tasking ability and solid time management skills to ensure multiple deadlines are met. There is a requirement to proactively identify employee and firm level issues and work to mitigate these whilst understanding any wider implications.

Responsibilities/Objectives
  • Work closely with Global Mobility Advisors and support assignment planning to identify ways to structure assignments effectively in EMEA locations from tax, social security and cost perspectives.

  • Subject matter expert for EMEA income tax and social security related aspects of Brexit strategy and implementation across EMEA

  • Manage the EMEA Cross Border Worker population. Liaise with KPMG for tax technical advice on these complex arrangements and communicate to the Cross Border Program. Track the CBW population, manage the annual review process and ensure the population is captured and considered during the year end compensation process

  • Manage the annual cash bonus process in determining home and host country tax and social security withholding and sourcing requirements.

  • Manage the annual RSU vesting process in determining home and host country tax and social security withholding and sourcing requirements.

  • Provide tax advisory support to UK Expatriate Payroll including RTI, HMRC tax agreements (e.g., Appendices 5, 6, and 7 and S690) and social security agreements.

  • Manage the home and host country tax withholding requirements and process for termination payments.

  • Have oversight and responsibility for monthly tax payments across the region.

  • Build strong relationships with Program stakeholders across the region.

  • Review and draft technical information and instructions for the team, such as assignment letters, HR briefing checklist, FAQs and guidance notes.

  • Keep updated on tax changes that may affect any aspect of international assignment for inbound and outbound EMEA assignees and share relevant information appropriately.

Qualifications

  • ATT or CTA qualified
  • Experience managing large expatriate programs within FS industry preferable
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Comfortable speaking clearly and confidently at senior levels and able to convey technical information in layman terms
  • Proven management ability, mentoring and development experience
  • Strong project management skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Creative problem solver and strategic thinker
  • Experience managing complex cross border (non-assignment) scenarios.
  • Exposure to EMEA tax complexities would be highly advantageous
