The Safety, Technical & Engineering (STE) Group is the Technical Authority for Network Rail providing strategy, policy and assurance as well as expert technical services to the business in asset management, engineering, maintenance, operations, safety, health and wellness, quality, sustainable development, security and information management.

Innovate - Define and deliver national improvement programmes and commission research and development to achieve a better railway

Lead - Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Network Rail and external stakeholders

Assure - Assure Network Rail assets and safety performance by governing standards and frameworks and providing intelligence to support business improvement

Grow - Improve the health and vitality of all Network Rail employees, grow our capability by developing competency frameworks and aligning competencies to industry developments and using management information, audits and investigations to identify best practice and continuous improvement.

Brief Description

This is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your engineering skills as a Senior Engineer in the Scheme Design Team within Safety Technical and Engineering.The Scheme Design team provide systems engineering support to the System Operator organisation and Regions in respect of future capability and capacity enhancement schemes for the national rail network.

You will take responsibility for providing railway systems design engineering capability to support the early phases of enhancement work.You will ensure that your portfolio of projects are managed in accordance with internal governance and work management procedures and be accountable for the delivery of engineering outputs to the relevant quality within time and budget.Over time you will develop your expertise across all engineering disciplines.

Key Accountabilities

    Provide expert advice input and support associated with your portfolio of work

      Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.

        Integrate and co-ordinate activities across different engineering disciplines.

          Act as the technical lead for your portfolio of projects

            Responsible for developing positive, engaging and outcome led relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

              Liaise with internal experts to support strategic decision making.

                Identify opportunities and contribute strategically to the development of business cases for technical and business process improvements / innovation.

                    Membershipof a relevant technical body

                      Broadtechnical engineeringexperience

                          Chartered status

                            Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP)

                              Strong commercial awareness and financially astute

                                Knowledge of the railway industry and an understanding of railway infrastructure

                                  Experience of working in railway infrastructure management or a similar safety critical environment

                                    Management or supervisory experience
