Role Purpose
  • Main responsibilities for this role include:
  • The Stress Testing team within WCR is responsible for the design and delivery of stress testing for the purpose of (i) completing the mandatory exercises set by HSBC’s various global regulators, and (ii) internally-led scenario analysis to assess vulnerabilities in the portfolio and inform credit appetite and strategic risk management actions.
  • The role is primarily responsible for supporting (i) review and analysis of stress testing results; (ii) providing commercial justification in support of modelled forecasts; (iii) presenting and defending results to Senior Management; and (iv) recommending expert judgment adjustments to results.

Major Challenges
  • Stress testing is a highly technical and fast-developing area due to increasing regulatory pressure and expectations.
  • The candidate needs to demonstrate a commercial and economic appreciation of the drivers of wholesale credit risk stress testing forecasts as well as a good awareness of the commercial and economic principles, portfolio and market drivers of projected losses and changes in PD, LGD and EAD under a stressed economic scenario
  • The jobholder will need to be able to summarise clearly and effectively the results of their analysis and their suggestions to senior audiences
  • Prioritise numerous requests at once, managing timing and stakeholders’ expectation appropriately.
Role Context
  • The primary stakeholder of the team’s output is the Global Head of Wholesale Credit Risk.
  • The current Global onshore team consists of an analyst, three managers, three senior managers, and a head. There is also a project and delivery team and an offshore team.
Management of Risk
  • The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology

Observation of Internal Controls

  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
