Job Description

The VP of Diversity and Inclusion will create the strategy and roadmap for ensuring Zendesk provides an open and inclusive environment for all employees to grow - partnering with the various functions and business leaders across the organization to effectively roll out and implement diversity and inclusion programs throughout the organization. Reporting into the Chief People and Diversity Officer, InaMarie Johnson, the VP of D&I can be based in San Francisco, CA or one of Zendesk’s hubs or regional offices, including Madison, WI; Dublin, Ireland; Singapore; London, England; or Melbourne, Australia.

The VP of Diversity & Inclusion will:

  • Serve as a thought-partner to the Chief People & Diversity Officer along with Zendesk’s leadership team and co-lead the D&I strategy for the People and Places team

  • Integrate and align D&I throughout all people practices and COEs, such as Talent Management, Total Rewards, and Talent Acquisition

  • As part of the People and Places Leadership Team, be the subject matter expert on D&I, ensuring all people practices are well-thought-out and considered through the lens of inclusivity

  • Continue to build the strategy and roadmap for Zendesk to achieve an open and inclusive environment for all employees

  • Create the case for increased investment in diversity and inclusion programs

  • Improve diversity within the organization to have broader representation, including underrepresented minorities

  • Partner hand-in-hand with Talent Acquisition to define the cadence for their digital media strategy

  • Partner with external agencies to revise and develop their infrastructure to support diversity and inclusion initiatives

  • Work with the business partnering organization to improve internal mobility and succession planning

  • Identify improvements in the existing development, engagement, and overall end-to-end people process to reduce bias and set up all people within the organization for successful career paths

  • Develop more robust learning and development programs around D&I and equip the leadership team with the tools to become equity fluent leaders

  • Globalize the Employee Resource Groups and help enable more self-directed control

Candidate Requirements:

The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, working effectively and efficiently with all functions. The VP of D&I will be a tireless teacher and communicator, who has extensive experience in the Diversity and Inclusion space. The successful candidate will be someone who is highly data and metrics-driven. The VP of D&I is a diplomatic and effective influencer.

The ideal candidate is:

  • An inspirational and visionary leader who can take the employee experience and transform it into an innovative new platform

  • A data-driven leader who has a track record of delivering operational excellence, efficiency, and analytics, and creating impact within organization

  • Has a diverse background and set of experiences to pull best practices from, versus prescribing a pre-existing HR playbook

  • A team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done and wear many hats

  • Actively involved in the Diversity and Inclusion functional community and able to attend important events and conferences in the space as needed

  • Transparent and accountable for their actions

  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and continually evolving environment
