Following successful bids in the international market, we are supporting Canadian Navy in the design of the latest frigates. This is a great time and a great opportunity to join our business and help shape the future of surface warships worldwide, and the project is still in its very early stages.

We are currently seeking a Principal Engineer – HVAC to work on the Canada project at our site in Scotstoun. In this position, you will play a key role in providing specialist mechanical/marine engineering expertise. You will be organising and co-ordinating significant aspects of engineering activity to ensue defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a new programme that allows you to engage with multipurpose global combat ship applications that are state of the art and will be delivered to a new export customer.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - HVAC will involve:

Engaging with internal and external vendors and customers

Participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need

Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability

Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained

Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team

Act as main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives

Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids

Carry out team planning, risk management and ensure quality across all scopes of work

Develop the team through the L&D and performance management process

Carry out technical investigations, and assess/provide recommendations regarding consequences

Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Degree qualified or equivalent qualification/experience

Knowledge of Air Conditioning, Heating & Cooling System, mechanically ventilated compartments, smoke cleareance systems, CBRN citadels, air treatment units

Analytical and numerical analysis


Ability to conduct engineering calculations from a detailed designer/functional designer perspective – computer analysis, 1D and 2D calculations


Knowledge of fluid system design and fluid system analysis


Performance analysis experience

Strong people management skills and extensive leadership experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment

Desirable:
Knowledge of warships

Hold a chartered engineering qualifcation or willing to work towards
