Senior Highways Engineer, Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.
As a senior engineer you will be part of a growing Scotland Roads team. You will be expected to combine managerial leadership with technical responsibility. The role carries a high degree of autonomy
Your responsibilities will include:
Promoting and ensuring adherence to our health and safety policy and procedures, managing discrete design packages and multi-disciplinary design teams.
Guiding teams and clients through the approval processes, including the discharge of associated conditions.
Showing technical leadership and providing technical expertise and advice, presenting technical advice to clients and stakeholders
Controlling task programme and budgets.
Assisting Project Managers on major schemes and with business development and ensuring design output meets the HDS quality obligations and requirements set out in the internal Business Management System.
Motivating, mentoring and guiding junior staff in their technical and career development coupled with effective line management of junior staff.
Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:
Full awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and how it is applied to the design process
Chartership -/ Incorporated Engineer with ICE or CIHT or suitable experience.
Knowledge of highway design standards (DMRB) and specification (MCHW)
You need experience in highway design and management of multi-discipline teams, highways construction and you need to be a confident communicator with good verbal and written skills.
Proven experience in leading design teams and be technically astute and experienced in coaching junior staff.
You need to be able to interpret client requirements to produce sound engineering proposals, self-motivated and enthusiastic with excellent team work abilities.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts and quality requirements.
Experience of contract preparation and procurement.
Essential competencies / skills:
The successful candidate will be proactive, enthusiastic and eager to play a part in a growing team.
Desirable academic, professional qualifications and experience:
Design and Build experience.
Prepared to work overseas should the opportunity arise.
Experience of working for local authorities or passenger transport executives.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in our growing vibrant and dynamic Roads Design team and contributing to our achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners.
You will be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh offices, but using our go digital platforms you will be an integral part of the wider Roads design teams located around the UK

We also provide advice on procurement options and administer contracts from tender assessment through interim valuations to settlement of final accounts.
