Would you like to play a key role in delivering Nuclear Submarines for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have a range of vacancies for developing and experienced Mechanical Engineers at our site in Barrow-In-Furness.

We are looking for talented, motivated communication engineers from a range of backgrounds. We are looking for you to support our on going Submarine programmes throughout the engineering lifecycle from concept through in service support, ensuring that we deliver an effective Royal Navy capability and a platform that ensures the safety of its crew. Specialities within Communications Engineering include but are not limited to:

  • Voice Over IP (VOIP) networks

  • P
rivate Branch Exchange systems

  • Acoustics Modelling and Simulation

  • Speech Quality Analysis

  • Public Address, Voice Alarm and Installed Sound Systems

  • Audio distribution systems

  • Trunked radio systems

  • Communications systems for safety critical applications

  • Communications systems for operation in explosive atmospheres

For Communications Engineering there are numerous roles available for a range of experiences, this advert covers, Engineer, Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer Roles, the primary difference between each being level of demonstrable experience:

Across each grade your role will involve:

Undertaking functional design, providing specialist advice and producing evidence in support of legislative, safety and technical requirements

Liaising with internal and external customers as part of a technical team

Undertaking peer reviews.

Articulating and presenting technical arguments, clearly, logically and simply.

Your specific responsibilities as an Engineer will involve:

Exercising professional engineering judgement, initiative and skill in discharging allocated tasks in a positive manner within required constraints

Essential criteria for this role

A relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or, Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience within an Engineering background;

Your specific responsibilities as a Senior Engineer will involve:

Coordinating and execute engineering tasks, or packages of work, providing guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner, taking cognisance of appropriate budget, timescale and quality standards, and providing leadership where required.

Essential criteria for this role

A relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or, Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience within an Engineering background;

Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle and technical specialities;

Working towards relevant Professional Registration

Your specific responsibilities as a Principal Engineer will involve:

Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work recognising stakeholder and customer requirements. Identifying and implementing opportunities for personal and team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individual are maintained and improved

Essential criteria for this role

A relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or, Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience within an Engineering background;

Significant demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle phases and technical specialities;

Having obtained or capable of obtaining relevant Professional Registration

You will be self-motivated and have the ability to work unsupervised and still meet tight deadlines. At the same time you will have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with the wider team when required. The ability to proactively problem solve is key to the success of this role.
