Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliaries Systems

Would you like to play a key role in the marine team for the Hunter class, developing design changes for the Australian variant of the Global Combat Ship? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliary Systems at our site in Scotstoun.

As a Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliary Systems, you will be undertaking a range of mechanical/marine engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to designers, operations and other functions and ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in an international programme, on the Hunter class, which is just in its early stages, so you will have the exciting opportunity to influence the design of the Hunter Class Frigate.

Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliaries Systems will involve:

Developing mechanical design specifications under guidance and carry out mechanical design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards. Examples of engineering output are mechanical schematic diagrams, mechanical design calculations, and mechanical specifications

Carrying out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

Preparing mechanical technical equipment specifications; develop mechanical designs in line with all specifications and standards

Contributing to process improvement within the operational and/or engineering team to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time and asset utilisation

Contributing to engineering team decisions to support the effective performance of the team

Making mechanical engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility

Answering technical queries about own work within their level of knowledge and competency

Your skills and qualifications:

Degree qualified or equivalent qualification or experience in technology/engineering/science disciplines

Either working or willing to work towards becoming a chartered Engineer
Extensive engineering or defence industry related experience
Understanding of Life Cycle Management

Has sufficient capability to be able to make correct trade-off decisions

Experience in a mechanical/marine engineering environment
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to management and peers
