Our Asset Information Services (AIS) team offers the rail industry trusted asset-related data and information management, insight and tools, enabling better informed business decisions that further improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of the railway as a system and ultimately deliver the timetable for our passenger and freight customers.
About the role
Do you have experience in managing a major data production operation?
As the reliance on asset data increases to improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of the railway, we need someone that can lead the improvement of our service levels on a national scale to provide the regions that we support with bespoke options.
Reporting directly to the Director of AIS, you will be owning and directing our operational asset data strategy, supported by a business area that has received significant investment to improve data reliability and resilience. You will manage a team of around 250 people that covers the whole lifecycle of data, from data collection and specification to processing, quality assurance, and analytical reporting, to extrapolate these data resources.
As well as facilitating our strategy, you will also have the opportunity to manage a dynamic business area and take on the many different operational responsibilities that come with a senior management role. Leadership, stakeholder management, commercial awareness skills and a proven track record in a data / information-based industry and role are must have skills.
About the role
What will you be doing?
1.Direct and lead the Asset Information Services Delivery organisation of over 200 FTE to achieve business and functional objectives and meet key performance measures and targets.
2.Direct the provision of a managed service for the mechanised and automated collection, analysis and delivery of infrastructure and vehicle-related data.
3.Direct the management and maintenance of asset infrastructure, capacity and capability data, and the delivery of information and insight through an integrated business reporting and analysis services.
4.Direct the development and delivery of, a Master Data Management approach for asset-related data and information to meet business and industry requirements.
5.Direct delivery of the processes, systems and competencies to provide assurance to stakeholders of the appropriateness of asset data and the effectiveness of asset information-related services and the development of asset information standards, procedures, best practice and supporting systems and processes to meet route, centre and industry-partner requirements.
6.Direct relationships with AIS' suppliers to ensure alignment with business and functional objectives and associated supplier specific arrangements to incentivise performance and share risk.
7.Direct the resource supply planning across Asset Information Services Delivery Units via a robust Demand and Operations Planning (D&OP) process - meeting required customer service levels and minimising end-to-end supply chain costs managing the supply chain budget.
8.Lead on behalf of Asset Information Services in co-ordinating the response to a customer or UK rail industry emergency.
9.Lead, as part of the Asset Information Services leadership team, the direction and development of Asset Information Services' strategies and offering portfolio and the development and delivery of asset data and information activities and capabilities within Network Rail and the wider rail industry.
10.Lead as part of the Asset Information Services leadership team the development and delivery of asset information activities and capabilities within Network Rail and the wider rail industry and the identification of business and safety risk associated with development, and work with direct reports to reduce risk to agreed acceptable levels.
11.Own and direct the development and maintenance of the capabilities required to support delivery - optimising the use of resources to meet customer demand and the development of an assurance framework and KPIs for the organisation aimed at embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
12.Facilitate benchmarking and implement identified best practice and other capability improvement initiatives throughout the team and develop and maintains the knowledge that is required in the business to support its work and own, and lead the development and implementation of, relevant standards, processes, procedures and work instructions.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
We are looking for someone that has the following:
- Degree, or equivalent, in an engineering or business-related discipline
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, influencing and communication skills
- Substantial experience of working with and influencing senior industry stakeholders
- Substantial experience in managing and developing teams to achieve high performance
- Substantial experience of strategy development in a commercial environment
- Relevant experience of leading and managing data- and information-based services
- Post graduate or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline
- Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status
- Knowledge of the railway industry and its regulatory framework

This is a Band 1B vacancy and is offering a package in the following range: £90,035 - £101,289 inc. bonus, car allowance, family healthcare, pension, generous annual leave allowance
