The Safety, Technical & Engineering (STE) Group is the Technical Authority for Network Rail providing strategy, policy and assurance as well as expert technical services to the business in asset management, engineering, maintenance, operations, safety, health and wellness, quality, sustainable development, security and information management.

Our key accountabilities are:

Innovate - Define and deliver national improvement programmes and commission research and development to achieve a better railway

Lead - Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Network Rail and external stakeholders

Assure - Assure Network Rail assets and safety performance by governing standards and frameworks and providing intelligence to support business improvement

Grow - Improve the health and vitality of all Network Rail employees, grow our capability by developing competency frameworks and aligning competencies to industry developments and using management information, audits and investigations to identify best practice and continuous improvement.

Brief Description

The Contact Systems team, within the Chief Mechanical & Electrical Engineering (M&EE) organisation, is looking to appoint Senior Engineers to support the development and practical implementation of new and updated standards associated with traction power systems, in particular; overhead line equipment and conductor rail contact systems.

The roles will give you the opportunity to:

    Develop standards relating to contact systems;

      Provide input into the development of safety cases for the new and updated standards;

        Develop, pilot and roll-out training materials;

          Provide support to front line practitioners; and

            Provide technical support to Route champions who are responsible for the roll-out of the new standards within their Route.

            Candidates are likely to have practical experience of the electrical safety processes associated with working on or near overhead line equipment and/or conductor rail systems.

            We are hoping to fill 6 vacancies; all being new additions to our operations.

            About the role

            Job Purpose:

            Toprovidetechnical engineeringinput, guidance and advice in support of electrical safety delivery.

            Key Accountabilities:

              Provide expert advice, input and support associated with the provision of services for our customers and suppliers.

                Provide the technical input to the development of the standards, specifications, means of compliance and KPIs.

                  Proactively research and respond to changes in the internal and external requirements and practice which impact upon policy and standards.

                    Support the setting of policy and standards, operational processes and systems. Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability.

                      Integrate and co-ordinate activity across different engineering disciplines, and contribute to the development of engineers within the practice

                      Skills, Experience and Qualifications

                      Essential

                        Degreeorequivalent level experience in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Railway Engineering or a process safety related subject

                          Membershipof a relevant technical body

                            Broadtechnical engineeringexperience

                              Projectorfinancial planningandmanagementexperience

                              Desirable

                                Leadership experience
