Engineer (Nuclear)

Would you like to play a key role in delivering Nuclear Submarines for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have a range of vacancies for developing and experienced engineers at our site in Barrow-In-Furness.

We are looking for talented, motivated engineers with nuclear experience from a range of backgrounds. We are looking for you to support our ongoing Submarine programmes throughout the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that we deliver an effective Royal Navy capability and a platform that ensures the safety of its crew. You will be responsible for delivering the engineering solutions that make UK Royal Navy Submarines truly World Class. The complex nature of the product places demands for nuclear expertise across a range of engineering areas, including:

Mechanical Engineer

Control and Instrumentation Engineer

Chemical Engineer

Engineering Assurance

Nuclear Governance

Safety Engineering

As detailed below we have Engineer, Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer roles to accommodate all levels of experience:

Your main responsibilities as an Engineer (Nuclear) will involve:

Working within a team to develop, evidence and justify engineering solutions, ensuring that customer and stakeholder requirements are met throughout the engineering lifecycle, exercising professional engineering judgement, initiative and skill in discharging allocated tasks in a positive manner.

Obtaining confirmation beyond reasonable doubt by review, surveillance and audit that those assumptions, underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results have been validated.

Contributing to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities.

Essential criteria for this role:

Degree level qualification in a relevant STEM subject

Willingness to pursue Professional Institution Membership

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer (Nuclear) will involve:

Coordinate and executing engineering tasks, or packages of work, and providing guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner, providing leadership where required.

Confirming beyond reasonable doubt by review, surveillance and audit, that assumptions underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results have been validated.

Contributing to the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities.

Essential criteria for this role:

Degree level qualification in a relevant STEM subject

Experience of working in a Nuclear business environment in an engineering capacity

Willingness to pursue Professional Institution Membership

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Nuclear) will involve:

Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work, recognising stakeholder and customer requirements.

Confirming beyond reasonable doubt by review, surveillance and audit, that assumptions underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results have been validated.

Contributing to the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities.

Essential criteria for this role:

Degree level qualification in a relevant STEM subject

Comprehensive experience of working in a Nuclear business environment in an engineering capacity

Demonstrable expertise of nuclear plant operations, nuclear facilities, preparation of operating instructions and procedures; nuclear safety cases

Clear understanding of nuclear process audit and assurance activities and site licence conditions

Chartered or capable of achieving Professional Membership status

At the same time you will have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with the wider team when required. The ability to proactively problem solve is key to the success of this role.
