Mechanical Bench Fitter

Would you like to work within an interesting role supporting the Operations sector at BAE Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a bench fitter mechanical at our site in Portsmouth.

Based in HM Naval base Portsmouth (PNB), BAE Systems. A bench fitter mechanical will work with in the operations department, working within state of the art Workshop facilities for repair and the manufacture of projects for our Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be part and work alongside a large team. This role is full of varied tasks. There is potential opportunity to move into management planning in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Bench Fitter will involve:

Carrying out a Trade Specific dynamic risk assessment before every task.

Abiding by all risk assessments, BAE polices and processes.

Attending all training courses, TBT and briefings where possible.

Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, overhaul and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment machinery and systems.

Overhaul, repair and testing of Mechanical equipment, machinery and components.

Such as High and low pressure pumps, ship system valves, actuators and gearboxes.

Ensuring all tools and equipment that are used are suitable, fit for purpose and in date for any inspection required.

Developing and maintain positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs.

Completing works as detailed by team leader.

Reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool.

Have a Business issued mobile phone to unsure full mobile working capability.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Recognised apprenticeship or industry / naval equivalent qualifications within the mechanical sector

Must have a good understanding of mechanical work and able to carry out various techniques used in repair industry

A knowledge of mechanical equipment and components is essential

Desirable

Previous mechanical Bench hand fitting skills such as hand scraping, valve lapping
