Principal Engineer (NSR Baseline & Capability)

Would you like to work on world class submarines using the most advanced technology available? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (NSR Baseline & Capability) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer (NSR Baseline & Capability), you will be providing specialist advice to the business with regards to nuclear safety and site licencing which is a key part of maintaining the licence to operate.

This role will provide you with working with a range of people across the business to improve the people capability of the business and assess and influence organisational design and changes, this can give you the opportunity to develop into Principal Engineer, Senior Project Leader and Consultant Engineer, Engineering Manager.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (NSR Baseline & Capability) will involve:

Managing the development and maintenance of the nuclear baseline element for NSRD, as well as supporting development of the organisational design to enable delivery of departmental responsibilities

Co-ordinating organisational change projects relevant to NSR, including monitoring progress against plans and provision of updates/progress reporting

Supporting the nuclear assessment of business-wide organisational change proposals in accordance with nuclear site licence/authorisation requirements

Managing the interface with the Nuclear Discipline , Skills and Capability Team and ensure ongoing compliance with business, regulatory and relevant good practice requirements associated with the nuclear baseline

Working with NSRD Management Team to ensure the departmental element of the nuclear baseline includes definitions of capability requirements in terms of role responsibilities and competencies

Identification of and propose mitigations for departmental vulnerabilities against current and future NSRD work programmes to inform long term capability requirements

Working with NSRD Management Team to ensure an aligned and joined up long-term strategy for resourcing, succession, KMAP and organisational development within the Department to support the development of the NSRD Long Term Skills Assessment (LTSA)

Co-ordinating the identification and delivery of L&D, Baseline and wider departmental training requirements to support the development and demonstration of capability for the scope of activities undertaken by NSRD

Engaging with relevant stakeholders to provide data and understanding into business planning processes

Providing leadership, support and coaching to those within line of responsibility

Co-ordinating the development and maintenance of the departmental communications plan and oversee its effective implementation

Representing NSRD at relevant formally constituted Committees and Authorisation Groups to advise on baseline management and capability

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential Skills:

Experience of technical report writing

Previous work in nuclear role – nuclear baseline, organisational design/change control

Previous experience of people capability management

Experience of providing technical advice to senior stakeholders

Desirable Skills:

Specific knowledge of licence condition 36

Experience in a nuclear regulatory/regulatory interfacing role

Understanding and experience of management systems, structure and requirements

Experience of working in a continuous improvement role
