Engineering at GC
The technical challenges of building GoCardless span from simplifying building banking schemes to optimising the time to render the dashboard. Working in different teams, you might contribute to different parts of our customer journey.
We are looking for Senior Engineer to join the Payment Success Group, where you will be working on payment intelligence products such as Success+. We sit at the crossroads of various disciplines at GoCardless, thus software engineers in our group have the chance to contribute across the full stack and gain insights into how a payments system operating globally works.
Our challenges range from building effective prediction systems (and interfaces for customers to configure them), to identifying and reporting the most meaningful metrics, and doing so in an scalable and accessible way.
As we develop new features, we need to expose more of them on our dashboard, and we need someone who can bring front-end skills to our team.
Our front-end is built with TypeScript, React, CSS and HTML. Our back-end is mostly Ruby and Python.
You will enjoy being a front-end software engineer at GoCardless if you:
- Like to collaborate and learn from people from various backgrounds and experiences;
- Enjoy having regular exposure to stakeholders and the leaders of our business;
- Sweat the details and care deeply about building memorable web experiences;
- Want to feel proud of the work you’re doing and its impact on our customers.
Our engineers contribute to the engineering culture within and outside of GoCardless: they contribute to Open Source Software projects (see our Github), and share learnings in post-mortems, conferences and on our blog. We've recently started sponsoring Storybook via Opencollective. We use Storybook within our Content Platform.
- You have a good understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards;
- You know HTML and CSS and you are always seeking out best practices;
- You have functional knowledge or hands-on design experience with Web Services;
- You built web products and services, and have an awareness of technologies across the stack;
- You have demonstrated technical leadership and delivered products as a Technical Lead
- You care about building reliable, well-tested systems;
- You thrive in a culture of continuous learning and feedback.
Life at GoCardless
Diversity is hugely important to us and we welcome applications from those with disabilities and from under-represented backgrounds. Throughout our hiring and onboarding process we make any reasonable adjustments necessary to create a level playing field and continually look at how we can improve in this area. We also have active ‘employee resource groups’ (such a BEAM and Rainbow) that are supported and sponsored by members of our Exec team; they work to engage and inspire our employees on diversity & inclusion topics throughout the year.
We offer flexible working hours and remote working arrangements, enhanced parental leave and pension packages. You’ll also receive equity, because we believe having this ‘buy in’ is a vital part of building a successful business where everybody - regardless of their role - can make a valuable contribution.
The COVID-19 pandemic has seen everybody at GoCardless shift to remote working and this is something we’ll continue to do into 2021. We continually review this approach in conjunction with the changing restrictions in each of our locations; additionally we offer support to maintain wellbeing and comfort, including subsidised home office equipment, workstation assessments and a range of remote social activities you can dip in and out of whenever you fancy.
