Principal Engineer

Would you like to be involved in designing, developing, and delivering cutting edge combat systems for the world’s most advanced military submarines? BAE Systems is recruiting a Principal Engineer to join our Combat Systems team to be based at either Frimley (Surrey) or Weymouth (Dorset).

As an Principal Engineer you will coordinate and execute engineering tasks, or packages of work, and provide guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner within the discipline, taking cognisance of appropriate budget, timescale and quality standards where required.


As a Principal Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:


Generation and management of Installation Guidance information for the Combat System Physical items


Generation of physical design concepts and solutions for the Combat System


Generation of technical requirements, installation drawings, and equipment specifications to enable procurement from sub-contractor suppliers


Problem Solving of complex systems and equipment


Supporting the review of bids and supplier information


Liaising with Suppliers and Combat Systems Team Members to agree technical solutions, coherent with the Common Combat System Design



As a Principal Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:


Good understanding of electrical principles

Good knowledge of systems and design

Experience of resolution of problems encountered during manufacturing/installation activities

Degree in relevant engineering discipline

Experience of dealing with suppliers and supplier managers

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
