The Area Director – Corporate Banking role is based within HSBC Commercial Banking (CMB).

HSBC Corporate represents some of CMB’s largest and more complex customers. Providing standard commercial banking products (working capital finance, short-term loans, deposits, payments etc.) and in conjunction with product specialists (e.g. GLCM, Global Banking and Markets, Insurance, Trade & Receivables Finance), Corporate provides both domestic and cross-border banking solutions including cash management, trade services, insurance, investment banking and advisory services.

The Area Director role is a leadership role. You will operate as an ambassador for HSBC in the local community and contribute to both the National and Regional strategy.

This is a key role within the Corporate Banking team, and you will be expected to be a key member of the regional board.

You will lead, coach, manage and develop a team of Relationship Managers to deliver bespoke strategic objectives to retain and grow their customer portfolio. This should be achieved by a strong ability to provide direction in assessing and capturing customer needs and opportunities effectively within the existing, new and prospective customer base and ensuring the proposed solutions meet their specific needs.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Being a key member of the Regional Board
  • Contributing to the National agenda for the segment
  • Taking a hands-on approach to achieving team and individual business objectives and performance management.
  • Assisting the team to help the customer to draw on the HSBC group network by working closely with other CMB sites and product groups (GTRF, G&M, I&I and GLCM).
  • Working closely with team to structure appropriate credit facilities for the relationship
  • Through intelligent activity management, ensuring a select mix of new business with a focus on high value prospects.
  • Supporting Corporate RMs directly with high value and complex existing and new to bank customers.
  • Building a network of business introducers in the local professional and business community.
  • Adopting and ensuring fully effective utilisation of all tools and systems provided by the bank to assist in delivery of an excellent customer experience for all clients.
  • Effectively pricing for risk.
  • Maintaining an effective credit and operational risk management framework in the Area.
  • Minimising impairment charges.
  • Driving proactive collaboration with product partners, and other Global Businesses to deliver maximum value of HSBC products and services to each assigned customer in the portfolio.
  • Monitoring and leading cross country referrals facilitated via Global Links and local or overseas IBC, whichever is appropriate.
  • Monitoring referrals for other Global Businesses, e.g. Private Banking, GBM, RBWM, as appropriate.
  • Keeping abreast of external factors influencing business e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading and develop a team, establishing cultural and behavioural excellence, high engagement, and effective performance management for the long term benefit of the bank.
  • Keeping up-to-date on knowledge of HSBC’s Leading International Trade and Business Bank strategy, capabilities and policies.
  • Keeping abreast of external factors influencing business e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with Group colleagues to ensure a joined up approach to identifying and capturing cross border opportunities.
  • Building strong relationships with HSBC customers/prospects and accountants/lawyers, Trade Advisors and any other related organisations.
  • Work with product partners (such as PCM, Trade, Insurance) to assess needs of international and domestic customers and offer appropriate solutions.
