Materials Technology Engineer (Painting & Coatings)

We have an exciting opportunity working on our Dreadnought submarine programme as part of the non-metallics team which provides the coating and materials assessment. We currently have a vacancy for a Materials Technology Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Materials Technology Engineer, you will be working with a wide range of materials and anything non-metallic on the boat with the Dreadnought programme being a huge focus, you will be working with the corrosion transversal lead and operations and quality function team.

This role will provide you with a variety of daily activities, from in-service support to design and concept activities, problem solving, as well as research and technology work. You will have the potential for career progression, which could include Principal Engineer, Technologist or Engineering Manager.

Your main responsibilities as a Materials Technology Engineer (Painting & Coatings) will involve:

Supporting operations in delivering coating and corrosion preservation

Managing the paint schedule for astute and dreadnought project

Managing notifications and queries from the shop floor, system owners and suppliers

Taking on Research and Technology activities within corrosion area including coating testing

Supporting the Marine Paint Forum, interfacing with MOD external customer

Your skills and qualifications Materials Technology Engineer (Painting & Coatings):

Essential:

Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in materials science, chemistry or equivalent

Desirable Skills:

Laboratory testing experience

Knowledge of marine environment

Paint inspection knowledge awareness or qualification

Corrosion testing knowledge or experience must be demonstrable
