Quality Leader – Continuous and Supplier Improvement

Are you a Quality Leader or Engineer, with leadership experience? Are you looking to develop the Continuous and Supplier Improvement elements of your role? Here at BAE Submarines, we currently have an opening for a Quality Leader-Continuous/Supplier Improvement, which will encompass all of these aspects.

As a Quality Leader within our team you will be working closely with the Supplier Intelligence, Risk and Performance Improvement teams, as well as Suppliers and Supply Chain Managers / Buyers across the function.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to develop and operate in an environment unlike any other. The Submarine Supply Chain has significant opportunity to make a positive difference on the whole programme and this role will be at the forefront of this development.

Your main responsibilities as a Quality Leader will include:

  • Understanding performance areas of the submarine Supply Chain SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People)

  • Using data analysis techniques to define improvement opportunity using SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound) actions

  • Leading the Supplier improvement activity using good practice standard methods ensuring that progress is regularly reported to stakeholders

  • Working within, facilitating and leading projects involving multifunctional teams, focused on delivering supplier improvements

  • Demonstrating tangible improvements in performance through effective data analysis

  • Analysis of Supplier inputs and outputs that are impacting of supplier quality and delivery performance

  • To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and SHE Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to comply with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) rules and control measures

  • Manage and take responsibility for all quality related activities (QA, QC, Inspection) without daily supervision and have the ability to deputise for the Quality Manager when the need arises

  • Support Quality through Local, QCI and Major Quality Failure (MQF) investigations

  • Mentor and lead a small group of Quality professionals as and when required

  • Developing , maintaining and managing key relationships in the business both internally and externally
  • Leading a multi-disciplined team to ensure that both customer and business requirements are met

Your Skills and Qualifications as a Quality Leader:

Essential:

  • Ability to lead and facilitate continuous improvement activity initiatives using cross functional teams as well as experience of leading a project Plan

  • HND or Equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience

  • A logical and ordered approach to analysing data & drawing conclusions

  • Excellent communication, networking, Stakeholder Management and effective presentation delivery skills

  • Sound Knowledge of Supplier Management and Improvement Tools and Techniques (e.g. SC21, Lean and Six Sigma Tools and Techniques)

  • An understanding of Supply Chain (Procurement) as well as the environment and challenges that it operates within

  • Understanding of Project and Change Management

Desirable:

  • Ability to strongly influence at all levels

  • Strategic Supplier Development Experience / Knowledge

  • Experience of Supply Chain (Procurement) across wider industries

  • Experience of Quality activities and their impacts within large manufacturing organisations

  • Lean Six Sigma Accreditation (preferable minimum Greenbelt accredited)
