As a Project Planner, you will be working in collaboration with the Project Management team and leading other Project Planning & Control professionals in the creation, implementation and maintenance of accurate schedules and support documentation serving multiple submarine programmes.
This is fantastic opportunity to be part of the Complex Systems and Support area of Maritime Submarines, which designs, builds, integrates and supports all the Submarine Combat Systems in the UK fleet. Your main responsibilities as a Project Planner will involve:
Creating project schedules to an appropriate level, primarily within the corporate Primavera P6 planning tool
Understanding the underlying logic and rational of the contents of the P6 schedule and maintain it accordingly, including ensuring all planning assumptions are documented.
Ensuring all project dependencies are reflected in the schedules and are appropriately linked to the "internal supplier" or "internal customer" schedules to support an integrated master schedule.
Monitoring key resource demand from the schedules and agreeing with the project manager any corrective actions to be taken within resource availability constraints.
For longer duration projects, conducting "rolling-wave" planning to maintain sufficient detail in the schedule as the project progresses.
Gathering monthly project progress (from internal and external stakeholders) in order to update schedules in line with project reporting timelines and best practice.
Tracking actual expenditure against the approved budget baseline and agreeing with the Project Manager the updated monthly forecast.
Extracting Earned Value data from the relevant reporting tools and provide recommendations to enable the Project Manager to make informed decisions on the Estimate at Completion.
Managing any project change through the business Performance Measurement Baseline Change Request process and implementing all agreed changes in the P6 schedule.
Your skills and qualifications as a Project Planner:
A good level of appreciation of the project management discipline.
Previous demonstrable experience in planning / project controls within a complex technical/engineering environment.
Excellent communications skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
Whilst not essential, experience in working with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and SAP tools would be highly desirable.
Experience in using Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
Experience in the application of Earned Value Management
Schedule Risk Analysis experience would also be desirable.

Complex Systems and Support:
Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
