Operations Engineering Manager

Would you like to work within an interesting role within the Land Sector at BAE Systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Operations Engineering Manager at our site in Radway Green.

Radway Green is one site of three where the munitions are created, they build the munitions and then send them on to Glascoed for filling. This said Glascoed is their largest customer and need to ensure they work to tight deadlines to there is no break in the cycle.

With a new site (created in 2011) they have a state of the art facility where the munitions are created with the latest of production equipment being used.

As Operations Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in the support to daily operations of Radway Green assisting operations so that it runs smoothly; allocating resource where required, and ensuring they work to strict deadlines.You will be responsible for managing the manufacturing engineering resource on site, as well as the facilities dept.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with multiple disciplines and individuals in different roles, you will be able to experience what BAE Systems does and the skills we work with and require to build the ammunitions.

Your main responsibilities as an Operations Engineering Manager will involve:

The maintenance of effective management arrangements for the implementation of the SHE Policy, including planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of preventative and protective measures within the Site Support Department of a CoMAH classified site.This includes the management of electrical services dept. (facilities & production), mechanical services dept. (facilities), and contractor management

Effectively managing the Manufacturing Engineering team to;

Supporting the delivery of the sites COMAH plan, including creation and review of Safe Systems of Work

Ensuring quality is maintained and issues are addressed in a timely manner

Delivering cost initiatives and continuous improvement (CI) projects to achieve OEE targets.

Supporting production to help achieve the delivery schedules; including managing projects to successful completion, assisting with breakdowns where required, and input into planned maintenance processes

Supporting and deliver the Production Readiness Review (PRR) process where required for new or existing products and/or processes

Proactively managing Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements within the Site Infrastructure / Engineering Services Department

Advising the site leadership team of any pending Facilities, Production, or SHE related issues

Ensuring the sites regulatory and safety compliance is achieved at the highest level

Ensuring the best value and service is achieved from the sites chosen service providers

Managing and control maintenance engineering resources available (personnel and financial) effectively in order to achieve required OEE levels and regulatory plant & equipment safety standards

Managing and control energy, waste and facilities utilisation across the site together with the maintenance budget

Supporting and project manage new installations or processes being implemented on the site as required

Supporting continuous improvement activities across the site – e.g. business system effectiveness, Green Belt projects etc

Developing suitable spares stocking policies which deliver value at the lowest costs

Your skills and qualifications:


Proven Experience to management level

Background in engineering /technician level

Safety Background (NEBOSH Qualification), worked in an industry with high safety background

Experienced in Plant Maintenance applying the latest Preventative Maintenance

HND for manufacturing and engineering


Facilities management qualification
