The JPMAM Currency Group is looking to recruit an emerging markets currency and local rates strategist to lead qualitative emerging market currency strategy and risk-taking for the JPMAM currency overlay book of business, whilst also providing key input on risk-taking decisions in local emerging market portfolios.

The Qualitative Currency Strategy team is responsible for formulating discretionary currency strategy across developed and emerging markets, which together with independently determined quantitative signals, form the basis of currency strategy within currency overlay portfolios. The lead emerging market strategist will be responsible for formulating views and creating strategies using emerging market currencies, with cross-over into development market currencies as required, to deliver excess returns with appropriate risk management in emerging market currency overlay portfolios. These portfolios encompass unconstrained currency overlay and fixed income portfolios, as well as constrained portfolios where bespoke currency strategy design will be required.

In this capacity, the individual will contribute actively to the emerging markets macro research effort and also work closely with the local emerging markets debt team, providing key input on risk-taking decisions in local emerging market portfolios.

The lead qualitative emerging market currency strategist will be a member of the Currency Investment Policy Committee which has oversight and responsibility for investment performance for all currency overlay products. In this capacity, the individual would be tasked with communicating qualitative insights on emerging markets to the committee and raising concerns surrounding potential events that the proprietary quantitative framework may be unable to evaluate efficiently. A further important aspect of the lead emerging market currency strategist role will be to co-ordinate with the Quantitative Research group to further enhance JPMAM’s quantitative currency models and the efficient translation of these signals into portfolios.

The JPMAM Currency Group is actively seeking to expand the external client book of business. To facilitate this effort, the lead emerging market strategist will be required to make external client and consultant presentations and effectively communicate the qualitative emerging market currency investment process and resultant views to this external audience.
