Cashing in on a new career – Vaultex

Looking for a new opportunity?

Our transparent job board only has vacancies from employers we endorse and lets you see what benefits, policies and perks come with the job.

We caught up with Emilia Berni, Head of Marketing and Communications for Vaultex, who shared with us what goes on behind the scenes with all the cash in the banks. It’s a whole new world and Vaultex plays an important role as the process centers of cash in the UK. This includes working with banks and big retailers who process large amounts of cash such as supermarkets.

Emilia only started in October 2020 and is thriving in her role. It’s a testament to her dedication and expertise, and how well Vaultex supports its people. She is excited for what lies ahead as she builds her career in a new industry.

A whole new world and dimension

This is Emilia’s first role in the finance industry. She previously worked in travel and leisure, but because of the impact the pandemic had on the industry, she had to think about other sectors.

“The travel and leisure sector got a beating because of COVID-19. I wanted to make a move that gave me a new challenge and career stability. I was attracted to Vaultex because they were refreshingly different. The remit of my role was to create a marketing strategy that I could have ownership over and that was very appealing.”

What impressed Emilia the most was the overall candidate experience. Vaultex truly left a great first impression. She knew instantly that this was a company she wanted to work for and was thrilled when she landed the role.

“I found them so engaging and open during the whole recruitment process. They took a chance on me because I don’t have experience in the finance sector. Vaultex recognizes how I bring in a new perspective and a new way of doing things. I ask a lot of questions! Everyone has been so helpful and generous with their time.”

Emilia’s induction was seamless. Due to the pandemic, everything was online but it was nonetheless an engaging experience.

“There is a comprehensive induction plan for all new starters. The online induction was very engaging. You got to meet with key stakeholders in the call. Importantly, our CEO meets with everyone and encourages us to ask lots of questions.”

Emilia’s first 90-day plan was to reinvigorate marketing and communications at Vaultex and create one integrated strategy — one that was applicable to international and domestic markets. Also, to help with new leads and getting in front of more potential customers. She took on this challenge with open arms and succeeded.

“I enjoy the variety my role in marketing gives me. I am involved in all the campaigns and projects from inception to delivery. It’s nice to see my part in the whole process.”

An inclusive culture

She says she hasn’t been in the office once because of the pandemic. Despite the absence of face-to-face interaction, she feels incredibly welcomed.

“There is an inclusive culture here. We have a brilliant HR department that is dedicated to creating the best candidate and employee experience. Vaultex is big on Corporate Social Responsibility and is very people-centric. There are regular company updates where great work is recognized.”

We asked what was next on the horizon for Emilia in her career goals. She shares her ambitions in building out the marketing team and taking on more responsibility at Vaultex. We won’t be surprised if she gets there sooner than she thinks!

“I see myself growing and building a [marketing] function because there is so much potential here. Personally, I’d like Marketing to be considered part of the key strategic pillars of the business. I’d like to be involved with how we grow and expand in the future. I am excited to see how this year’s plans come together, and with a return to more face-to-face business, the potential is huge.

Emilia shares with us some sage career tips. Her biggest advice is to research companies and make sure their values align with yours. We’re proud that Vaultex is an Endorsed Employer which means they tick all the right boxes in advancing gender equality.

“Do your research into companies and don’t be afraid to try something different. Go on and take that risk! At first, I was self-conscious about considering a completely new industry. Don’t forget to ask loads of questions. If you don’t ask, you’re never going to get anywhere. Always be open and up for something new. It helps that I enjoy talking to people and getting to know them.”

We concluded our conversation asking Emilia about her hobbies, interests and what she likes to do outside of work. She says she sorely misses all the travelling but considering she jumped into a new industry and job, she feels it’s almost as good as a sunny vacation. She loves her job at Vaultex.
